Six qualify for state speech

The Oberlin Speech Team placed 2nd at the Norton Speech Tournament on Feb. 9. Six DCHS students qualified for the state meet.
Ethan Merrill got first place with his prose interpretation and qualified for state.
Ashley Horton also placed with her prose interpretation, coming in second place, and qualifying for state. Ashley also got second place in poetry interpretation, which she will also take to state.
Makenzie Nelson got second place in informative speaking, qualifying her for state in this category.
Amber Mason and Tim Larson competed in Duet Acting and also took second place. They too will be taking their piece to state.
The sixth state qualifier is Jacinta Carter. She got second place in Humorous Solo Acting.
Ethan Merrill and Ashley Horton were the top scorers at the Norton speech competition, Ashley with 45, and Ethan with 42.
"The team did an outstanding job," said Coach Leigh Davis. "The freshmen novice competed like experts."
