Oberlin placed fourth at the Ellis Invitational Speech Meet. Twenty-one teams participated.
Placing third were Jessica Bremer in extemporaneous and Rory Wendelin in humorous solo acting. Mackenzie Nelson placed fourth in informative speaking.
Jacinta Carter and Jordan McHugh also placed fourth in improvised duet acting.
Others participating were Jessica Bremer, Melissa Hasty, and Becky Helm in prose; Jasmine Pearson, Emma Merrill, and Jay Wessel in poetry; Jordan McHugh in serious solo acting; Kassia Bryan, Ethan Merrill, and Joe Hirsch in humorous solo acting; the duet acts of Chenny Langness and Kassia Bryan, and Jay Wessel and Makenzie Nelson; and the improvised duet teams of Chenny and Kassia, and Joe Hirsch and Ethan Merrill.
"We did a fine job, but just lacked that extra zing to get us into finals and then into the top placements," said Coach Leigh Davis.
