The Oberlin Speech team traveled to Colby on March 13 to compete against eighteen other teams. The team finished the first and second round with excellent ratings and finished the day with ten medals. No official sweep points were given, but according to Coach Leigh Davis' calculations, Oberlin finished in fourth place.
Placing third for Oberlin were the team of Jacinta Carter and Jordan McHugh in improvised duet acting, Annamarie Larue in informative speaking, and Jessica Bremer in extemporaneous speaking.
Jacinta also placed fourth with her humorous solo.
Placing fifth were Makenzie Nelson in informative speaking and the team of Jay Wessel and Makenzie Nelson in duet acting.
Ashley Horton in prose, Laysha Medina in serious solo acting, and Jay Wessel in poetry all placed sixth.
Also competing for Oberlin were Jessica Bremer and Ethan Merrill in prose; Alyssa Rippe and Farra McChesney in serious solo acting; Emma Merrill in poetry; Rory Wendelin and Joe Hirsch in humorous solo acting; Hunter Nedland in extemporaneous speaking and with Ashley Horton in duet acting; and Alyssa Rippe and Heather Ploussard in duet acting, and Joe Hirsch and Daniel Jordan in duet acting.
Qualifying for State Festival were Ashley Horton, Jay Wessel, Makenzie Nelson, Jacinta Carter and Jordan McHugh.
