Haley Barrett wins first place

Haley Barrett placed first in informative speaking at the Smith Center Invitational Speech Tournament on March 26. Eleven teams competed in the tournament; Oberlin placed fourth.
Jessica Bremer placed second in extemporaneous speaking. Both Haley and Jessica have qualified for the State Tournament to held in May.
"We made some excellent progress," said Coach Leigh Davis. "Awesome performances by Haley and Jessica."
Five students qualified for State Festival. Jessica Bremer with her prose, and two sibling teams in improvised duet acting: Becky and Jacob Helm, and Jenny and Heather Ploussard.
Also placing for Oberlin were Laysha Medina, third in serious solo acting; Hunter Nedland, fourth in extemporaneous speaking, and Becky Helm, fourth in original oration.
Competing for Oberlin were Jacob Helm in informative speaking; Laysha Medina and Melissa Hasty in prose; Jasmine Pearson in poetry; Jordan McHugh and Farra McChesney in serious solo acting; Ethan Merrill in humorous solo acting; Heather Ploussard and Alyssa Rippe in duet acting; and Melissa Hasty and Tim Larson in improvise duet acting.
"The freshmen are making a strong showing," said Coach Davis.
