This year's senior class has been working hard to finish the year with a bang, both in school and out of school. The seniors just finished a community service project, which was Wednesday, April 30. They went to a number of places: the Decatur County Museum, the Gateway, Oberlin Country Club, and Sappa Park.
The students took a day from their normal school activities to do some good in the community. The idea came from Leigh Davis' senior English class, when she challenged the Senior Class to make a difference and leave their mark.
Des Vilar's idea was to do something worthwhile in the community. From there, Marcia Lohoefener organized the seniors to help clean up at Sappa Park. Dick Ahlberg also took a few seniors to the golf course.
Along with city employees, the seniors raked leaves, cleaned out the shelter house, and took down an old shed at Sappa Park. At the golf course, seniors cleared out some weeds, picked dandelions, and picked up branches through out the course.
At the museum, a few seniors helped dust and clean up a few things. They also had a good time trying on different hats and dresses. At the Gateway, a few more seniors picked up trash in the ditches.
Amie Ritter said, "It was fun, and I'm glad that I could help out."
