Quinter High School hosted a Regional Student Council Conference on Oct. 6. Adviser Brenda Breth took eight Oberlin members to the conference: Nathan Simonsson Annamarie Larue, Chris Larson, Jay Wessel, Farra McChesney, Heather Ploussard, Ashley Horton, and Jacob Helm.
When Stuco members first arrived at the conference, they were given a sheet of paper. On the paper was numerous blanks meant for signatures and various categories such as "Cross Country Runner." Members from all schools had to find a different person to sign each one. The activity was meant to get students to interact between schools. Heather Ploussard and Farra McChesney were first and second to finish.
After the signature hunt and donuts, Stuco members piled into the auditorium for a welcome from Quinter's Stuco President, Edward Machen. Edward introduced "Running Scared," a band of five QHS members, to perform for entertainment. After "Running Scared" performed two songs, students listened to guest speakers David Cherry, an executive from Kansas State High School Activities Association, and Rob Miller, a former high school and college basketball coach.
Mr. Miller asked everyone to write down one word that described each member's own school. Then he asked everyone to write down one word that each member wanted their school to be by the end of the school year. From Oberlin, the main focus became "Unity."
Oberlin members decided that our school needs to work on "Unity" and "Togetherness." Each school then discussed ways they could accomplish their goals. They made posters and shared their ideas with the entire group.
The main goal from most schools was "unity." Other goals were pride and enthusiasm.
