At the first speech tournament of the season, senior Hunter Nedland qualified for State Speech.
The Hill City Invitational Speech Tournament took place February 6 with 16 teams participating.
Of the 12 events competing for Oberlin, three placed. Hunter Nedland in extemporaneous speaking placed first, Kiah Blau and Miranda Sheldon placed third in improvised duet acting, and Amanda Marshall placed fifth in prose interpretation.
The team also came in 5th with 121 points. "This was our first tournament, and it’s clear we have a great deal of work ahead of us,” said Coach Leigh Davis. “First we need to get the entire team to a tournament. Second, each individual must work harder. Preparation is the key to success, and the competition won't get any easier.”
