Junior Jacob Helm has been selected for the "Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp" sponsored by Prairie Land Electric Cooperative, Inc.
Jacob, along with other students from Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Wyoming will meet in Steamboat Springs this summer to learn more about cooperatives, rural electrification, leadership, and safety. The students will tour one of the largest electrical generating plants and Trapper Mine where coal is mined to fuel three local generation plants.
To win the all-expense paid trip, Jacob first had to apply, and then he and the other finalists had to take a written test and be interviewed. Three students were chosen for the "Government in Action" trip, which is trip to Washington D.C., and three other students were chosen for the Steamboat camp. Jacob was first selected for the Washington trip but had to decline the invitation because of a scheduling conflict.
Prairie Land Electric Cooperative has sponsored the trips since 1968. The other five students selected are from Lenora, Plainville, Prairie View, Logan, and Kanorado.
Jacob is the son of Mike and Deb Helm.
