My life

I was born in Oberlin, KS in the year 1979. I went to Herndon public school until 4th grade. I then went to Oberlin Middle School as a 5th grader where I later graduated Oberlin High School in 1997.
I went to Garden City Community College in Garden City, KS to play football. There I graduated in 1999 with an associate's degree in General Agriculture. I then went to Kansas State University for four years earning my Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with a minor in Animal Science.
During my stay at KSU, I met my wife Megan (Williams) Ketterl. It was also during this time that I became involved with American Civil War re-enacting. My wife and I traveled all over the U.S. to re-enactments. I've been in one movie production and several History Channel productions.
I started teaching at Jewell Jr. Sr. High School. I taught for two years there and was High School Head Football coach and FFA Advisor. I taught Woods I & II, Agricultural Mechanics, Small Engines, Horticulture I & II, and Introduction to Agriculture. My wife Megan worked at the local Library until she was 4 months along with her pregnancy. Megan gave birth to our two beautiful identical twin boys April 18, 2004. Their names are Landen Vaughn and Braeden Walker.
After our two years in Jewell, we moved to Oberlin when the Agricultural Education position became available. I currently teach Agricultural Mechanics, Small Engines, Plant Science, Agricultural Business, Agricultural Welding, and Introduction to Agriculture. I have lived in Oberlin for three years now.
As FFA Advisor I have been building the FFA program up. Each year I strive to do more and more. My wife says I need to do the same at home! I love teaching and hope to continue for many years. I enjoy teaching shop classes because the students get more hands-on learning. I feel that all the classes I teach are important and deserve the same attention. I really like teaching the leadership aspect of the FFA. The advise I give to students is "Want more. Never settle for anything, strive to be something."
I live life with the thought of my wife and children as the most important part of my life.
