Speech Team holds lock-in

DCHS Journalism

Stacia Russ

January 09, 2018

Speech season is off to the races. On January 6, the speech team started its season with a lock-in at the school. The reason for the lock in is to bond as a team, play games, eat, and find pieces for the new season.

The speech team members who attended were Stacia Russ, Petra Trejo, Emily Howland, Faith Meitl, Dani Rouse, Bethany Mason, Sarah Abernathy, Nathan Cartmell, and Melody Koerperich as well as head coach Ladd Wendelin and assistant coach Janell Marchello.

The night started with the students just hanging out, eating pizza, and playing the game Taboo.   They were split into two teams. Team one was Stacia, Petra, Emily, Sarah, and Nathan. Team two was Faith, Dani, Bethany, Melody, and Mr. Wendelin.  Mrs. Marchello made sure no one cheated. By the end of the game, team two had won.

After the game, the team went to the library to find pieces for their events. The team also received their speech shirts.

Most of the team members at the lock-in found two pieces. Now all the team has to do is practice and get ready for its first tournament, which is January 27 in Colby.
