The junior high scholars’ bowl team had their first matches of the season on Monday, Nov. 5. The 8th graders came out with a 4-3 record receiving fourth place. The seventh graders had a 3-4 record for sixth place.

Competing on the seventh grade team were Lia Jimenez, Rayne Erickson, Ana Freeman, Trennedy Woolsey, and Kamryn Oien. Competing on the eighth grade team were Olivia Hughes, Braeden Ketterl, Landen Ketterl, and Grady Lohoefener.

“I had fun at the first meet,” said Braden. “Some of the questions were tricky, and some were easy. It was a good experience.”

Of the four rounds the seventh graders lost, three of those were by one question. They lost to Rawlins County 70-40, Brewster 60-50, Colby 40-30, and Golden Plains 40-30. They defeated Cheylin 60-20, Grinnell 50-40, and Goodland 60-20.

All three rounds the eighth grade team lost were close: Atwood 40-20, Grinnell 50-40, and Goodland 50-40. They defeated Brewster 40-20, Colby 50-40, Golden Plains 30-10, and Cheylin 60-50.

Olivia answered a game-winning tie breaker against Colby. Lia also answered a tie-breaker question against Grinnell in the language arts category for the win.

“I was very proud of my teams,” said Coach Sierra Lohoefener.  “It was the first matches of the year, and they really started to get the hang of it towards the end. They did an excellent job.”
