The Decatur Community Junior High cheerleaders and wrestlers had a busy day on Monday, Feb. 18. During homeroom, the cheerleaders had a short pep assembly to get the wrestlers ready for the league tournament, which took place in Hoxie later that day.

The cheerleaders kicked the pep assembly off with the fight song. A relay style game that used oranges got every student in the junior high involved. Following the game, junior high coach Channing Fortin spoke. To wrap up the pep assembly, the four wrestlers put their hand prints on shirts for Coach Fortin, assistant Coach Kerry Louderback, and cheer sponsor Jillian Springer. All four boys took second place in their weight class at league.

“It was great to see our cheerleaders bringing in school spirit and doing the fight song,” said Principal Ben Jimenez. “The pep assembly went well.”

Junior high wrestlers were Josh Juenemann, Lukas Zodrow, Lukas Diederich, and Gavin Seller.

Junior high cheerleaders were Gabbie Vontz, Avery Witt, Trennedy Woolsey, Katrina Neal, Kamryn Oien, Lia Jimenez, Dani Weyeneth, Aidyn Witt, Addison Mathews, Ana Freeman, Cheyanna Hale, Gabi Johnson, Karlee McCluskey, Maci Weigel, Keylee Ritter, Olivia Hughes, Ellie Anderson, Breyana Gehring, and Taylor Ketterl.

“The pep assembly was something the girls had been excited about doing since the beginning of the season,” said Mrs. Springer. “It was nice for them to be able to learn and perform the Fight Song.”
