Hansen Scholarships

DCHS Journalism

Isabel Grafel

March 06, 2019

All five of the Decatur Community High School students who interviewed for a Dane G. Hansen scholarship received one. These students include Faith Meitl, Isabel Grafel, Kaylen Ashley, Kaden O'Hare, Clayton Carter, and Alex Hayward.

"Getting the Hansen was a huge relief. Financing college is a huge burden, and I will forever be grateful to the Hansen Foundation for helping take some of the weight off my shoulders," said Kaylen.

In order to qualify for an interview, the students had to do well on a test taken earlier in the fall, consisting of vocabulary, English, math, science, and two essays. In order to qualify for the test, the students had to have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and at least a 21 on their ACT.

Faith received the Hansen Leader of Tomorrow scholarship. It is a $10,000 scholarship renewable for three additional years.  Isabel, Kaylen, and Kaden all received the $6,500 Hansen Scholar scholarship. It is also renewable for three years.

Clayton and Alex both received the Hansen Student scholarship. It is renewable for one additional year and worth $4,000 per year.

All scholarship recipients must be enrolled as a full-time college student and maintain a 3.0 GPA. The Hansen Leader of Tomorrow and Hansen Scholar scholarships must be used at a four-year college or university.
