Superintendent's Welcome

September 2019

Welcome to the beginning of the 2019-20 school year. It is my honor and privilege to serve as the Superintendent for Oberlin USD 294 Decatur County School District! I grew up in Southeast Kansas and went to school K-12 in a small district. My alma mater is the Red Devil, and I’m once again proud to be a Red Devil. I earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Pittsburg State University and Emporia State University.

As we begin this school year, we are reflecting on who we are and why we are here. As a district we are on a mission. Our mission is one of perpetual improvement, as we focus on putting students in our district first. Our mission is really their journey. As a district and as a state, we are focused on continuous improvement in order to make sure every student succeeds. This improvement process is driven by four main principles. These principles are to make sure to provide student success skills and social emotional growth, while building relationships and collaborating. They also support personalized student learning with the goal of improving real- world applications through internships, civic engagement, and project based learning. We will work toward these goals to build and strengthen a collaborative atmosphere dedicated to the success of every student.

I look forward to working with you, our parents and community in the coming years. Our Mission, Their Journey!
Sandra K. Short
