National Honor Society has started a new project. After home sporting events, they clean up the trash in the stands.

National Honor Society members came up with the idea because they decided they wanted to do something to help out in the school. The custodians spend a lot of time cleaning up trash after games. They thought it would be nice to save the custodians’ time.

Senior member Sage Lohoefener said, “I think this is a really good way to give a service to the school.”

“There is always a lot of trash to be picked up after the games,” said senior member Alyssa Van Vleet.  “I’m glad that NHS stepped up to help out.”

“I didn’t even know the kids were doing this until Terry Ream [USD 294 outdoor maintenance supervisor] told me about it,” said Principal Brenda Breth. “He very much appreciated the students’ efforts.  I am so proud of the NHS members – not only for doing it, but for not making a big deal of it.”

The group hopes to help out this winter as well after basketball games.

Members of National Honor Society are Sarah Abernathy, Anna Carter, KeLynn Jacobs, Sage Lohoefener, Erin May, Gabe Peter, Mackenzie Urban, Alyssa Van Vleet, and Gracie Vontz. The club’s sponsor is Kathryn Tremblay.
