The Decatur Community Junior High Scholars’ Bowl teams competed in Oakley on Monday, Feb. 4.  According to Coach Sierra Lohoefener, both the seventh and eighth grade teams did really well.

There were nine rounds, and the seventh grade team had a record of 7-2, which gave them first place. This was only the second meet for the seventh graders.

The seventh grade team included Rayne Erickson, Ana Freeman, Lia Jimenez, Kamryn Oien, and Trennedy Woolsey.

The eighth grade team finished the tournament with a record of 5-4. Two of their rounds were within 10 points, which is just one correct answer.

The 8th grade team included Bryant Addleman, Olivia Hughes, Josh Juenemann, Braeden Ketterl, Landen Ketterl, and Grady Lohoefener.

Coach Lohoefener said, “Both teams exceeded my expectations. They did really well, and I’m sure we will finish the season out strong.”

The home meet was Monday, Feb. 11, and the Northwest Kansas League meet is in Quinter on February 21.

Because there is no time in their daily schedule to practice, the junior high students meet before school once a week.
