This year’s cast of the school play "Rumbo" includes many rookies who are already "off book," which means that the actors don't need to look at their script, and they don’t carry it with them on stage anymore.

Practice for the play began on January 7. For 15 of the 23 cast members, this is their first experience in a play.

“I enjoy trying something new and expressing my emotions on stage,” said Sage Lohoefener, who plays commercial actress China Sable, and this is her first year of being in the play.

Senior Kaylen Ashley, who plays perfume tycoon Cassandra Wembly, said, “I actually really enjoy having new people around. It's a nice contrast to all of the small cast stuff we've done, and I love that it gives more people a chance to be involved.”

English teacher Janell Marchello is the director of the play. “I love the fact that we have so many new people joining us in the play this year.  It is wonderful to see the kids trying new things and working outside of their comfort zone. I think they are having fun because they get to be with many of their friends doing something creative.  New people are great for the drama department because it ensures us that we will continue to have talented students to put on great shows in the future,” said Mrs. Marchello.

The play will be performed on March 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
