Parent-Teacher conference date change

DCHS Journalism

Believe it or not, the first quarter comes to an end this Friday, Oct. 18.  That means parent/teacher conferences are right around the corner.  They are scheduled for Monday, October 21 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 24 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  This is a change from the USD 294 printed calendar.

Conferences were scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22, but principals Brenda Breth and Brandon Gehring asked superintendent Sandy Short if they could be moved.  The school board approved the change at a special board meeting last week.

Because Decatur Community High School is now a 1A school according to the Kansas State High School Activities Association, our volleyball team will participate in regionals, which is Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Golden Plains. The junior high volleyball tournaments are also that day.  The A Team will compete in Quinter and the B Team in Sharon Springs.

“The regional volleyball tournament means two more teachers as well as several parents would not have been able to be at conferences, so we just thought that it would be better to change the date of conferences,” said Mrs. Breth.  “Now we can support the junior high and high school volleyball teams.”

The first vocal concert of the year is also Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 in the auditorium.

There is no school for USD 294 on Friday, Oct. 25.
