Nine DCHS juniors and seniors recently traveled to Goodland to take part in the Junior/Senior Expo Day at Fort Hays Northwest Tech. The event gave students a chance to explore hands-on career opportunities and see firsthand what technical education has to offer.

Students were able to choose two programs to tour, with plenty of opportunities to roll up their sleeves and try out real-world skills. Guss Emigh. toured the plumbing program, where he got to run an excavator and solder pipes together. Students exploring the Medical Assistant and Respiratory Care programs practiced giving a shot and even learned how to intubate a medical dummy. Others visited the Precision Ag program and got to pilot a drone across the test field.

In addition to those experiences, our group also toured programs in cosmetology, childcare, welding, electrical, diesel mechanics, and more. Fort Hays Northwest Tech offers certificates in each of these areas, and now also provides associate degrees. All of their credits transfer to most Kansas universities—and 100% transfer to Fort Hays State University.

For students who want to enter the workforce quickly, gain valuable skills, and graduate with minimal debt, technical schools like Fort Hays Northwest Tech offer an incredible opportunity. With nearly a 100% job placement rate, these programs give students a direct path to meaningful, high-demand careers.
