Decatur Community,
In a community like Oberlin, the schools are not simply buildings, they are the heart of the town, the place where our children learn, grow, and prepare for their future as they evolve from young children to young adults right before our eyes.
Our goal at USD 294 is to provide safe, modern, and innovative learning environments for our students, while maintaining deep respect for the pocketbooks of our taxpayers.
Over the past three years, our community has voted “no” on two separate school facility bond proposals, a message that those proposals were not the right answer for our community. We respect those outcomes, and have taken that feedback to heart.
While the bond proposals did not move forward, the reality remains that there are still many facility challenges. Aging infrastructure, maintenance efficiency, and long-term sustainability of our buildings are real issues that cannot be avoided. To find a solution that fits both our community’s needs and financial comfort, we must work together.
Before any major decisions are made about the future, we want to ensure that every community member has access to as much information as possible. You can review our current Facility Assessment, Mechanical and Electrical Evaluation, and a host of other background information by:
